전시 개요 OVERVIEW 갤러리도올은 제7회 안평 안견 창작상 수상 작가인 김양동의 개인전을 개최한다. 작가는 신석기시대의 대표적 조형 요소인 빗살무늬를 나름의 방식으로 재해석해왔다. 빛과 태양의 기운을 담아, 서예와 전각, 회화가 결합된 모습을 보여준다. 특히 그는 직접 개발한 토채로 판을 만들어, 문자를 새긴 후 구워낸 뒤 한지에 찍어내는 기법을 활용한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 한국 예술의 원형과 현대적 변화를 수용하며 탐구한다. 한 줄이 시작되면, 시간이 흐르며 지금이 새겨진다. 밝음의 미학을 바탕으로 그의 작업 속에서 각(刻)·서(書)·화(畵)’의 결합은 구현된다. 문자와 조각이 한 화면에서 어우러지고, 전통과 현대가 맞닿는 순간, 그의 예술은 한국적 미의 본질을 새롭게 드러낸다. 작가의 예술적 관심은 서예에 머물지 않고 확장돼 한국 시원(始原) 문화에까지 연결돼 있다. 한국 문화의 원형을 30여 년 넘게 연구한 그는 신석기시대 빗살무늬토기의 빗살은 머리빗이 아닌 ‘햇빛의 빗살’이라는 주장을 해왔으며 2015년 이러한 내용을 바탕으로‘한국 고대문화의 원형의 상징과 해석’을 (지식산업사) 펴내기도 했다. 뉴욕 메트로폴리탄 뮤지엄, 필라델피아 뮤지엄을 비롯해 국립현대미술관, 고려대박물관, 계명대박물관 등에 주요 작품이 소장돼 있다. 그는 여든이 넘은 나이에도 불구하고 지금도 새로운 도전을 마다하지 않는다. 활발한 탐구 정신으로 작업 세계에 몰두하며 서예와 예술, 품격의 창조의 의미를 되새긴다. Gallery Doll presents a solo exhibition by Kim Yang-Dong, the 7th recipient of the Prince Anpyeong Artist An-Gyeon Foundation Award. Kim reinterprets the comb-pattern motif—a symbolic form from Korea’s Neolithic period—through his own unique visual language. His work embodies the energy of sunlight and brightness, fusing calligraphy, seal engraving, and painting. Using tochae, an earthen pigment technique he developed, the artist carves characters into clay plates, fires them, and prints the result on traditional hanji paper. Through this meticulous process, he explores the origins and modern transformations of Korean aesthetics. In his work, a single line becomes a vessel of time, where the present is engraved. His integration of carving (刻), writing (書), and painting (畵) expresses a refined aesthetics of light and clarity. Characters and forms merge on a single surface, revealing the essence of Korean beauty at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Kim’s artistic inquiry goes beyond calligraphy, extending into Korea’s cultural origins.
