Thomson Dates: June 21 – July 14, 2025 Tues – Sun pm 11:00-18:00 Opening Reception: 06.21(Sat) 5pm 우리는 자연을 어떻게 인식하는가? 향기로운 풀 내음과 꽃향기, 무더운 날씨에 끈적이게 몸에 스며드는 습도와 온도, 순간순간 색채를 달리하는 나무들, 그리고 시리도록 매서운 바람이 온갖 가지를 흔드는 소리. 이 모든 요소들을 통해 우리는 자연을 감지한다. 외부의 자연은 오감을 통해 우리 내면으로 스며들며, 생명이 다한 신체가 결국 흙으로 돌아가는 모습을 보며, 우리 자신도 자연의 일부임을 깨닫게 된다. 이처럼 광대한 자연의 영역은 한 문장으로 결속짓기 어려우며, 여러 갈래의 시선을 통해 다양한 의미로 정의된다. 갤러리진선은 〈낯익음, 낯설음〉 전시를 통해 네 명의 작가 정석우, 진형주, 최영빈, 로버트 톰슨이 각기 다른 감각과 사유를 통해 포착한 ‘자연’의 다양한 형상들을 조명한다. 익숙하지만 어딘지 모르게 낯선 이미지들, 혹은 설명하기 어려운 정서적 풍경들을 통해, 이들은 자연과 인간, 기억과 감각, 추상과 현실 사이의 교차 지점을 탐구한다. 작가들은 각자의 방식으로 ‘자연’을 사유하며, 우리가 그동안 지나쳤던 감각의 틈을 비추고, 그 안에서 되살아나는 어떤 정서적 풍경을 제시한다. How do we perceive nature? The pleasant scents of grass and flowers, the sticky humidity and temperature that seep into our body in hot weather, the trees changing colors every moment, and the sound of the strong wind shaking all kinds of branches. We perceive nature through all these elements. Nature that is surrounding us seeps into our inner selves through our five senses. As we see our physical body eventually returning to the earth after death, we realize that we are part of nature as well. Nature is so vast that it is difficult to summarize in one sentence and is defined to reflect various meanings through various perspectives. This exhibition, “Unfamiliar, Familiarity,” highlights the various forms of “nature” captured by different senses and thoughts of the four artists: Chung Seokwoo, Jin Hyoungjoo, Choi Youngbin, and Robert Thompson. They explore the intersections between nature and human, memories and senses, and abstraction and reality through familiar yet somehow unfamiliar images or emotional landscapes, which are difficult to explain. Each artist thinks and studies about “nature” in their own ways, illuminating the gaps in our senses that we have overlooked and presenting a certain emotion
