최만길 2023 나만의 풍경展

전시 개요 OVERVIEW 이번 전시는 얼마 전 끝난 화랑미술제를 통해 처음 선을 보여 호평을 받았던 한지 소재를 바탕으로 한 작품이 주를 이룬다. 중견 작가로서 꾸준한 노력 없이는 자칫 매너리즘에 빠지거나 한정 된 형식과 장르에 메이기 쉽다. 하지만 최 작가는 거의 매번 전시 때마다 실험과 도전 정신을 잃지 않은 열정적인 작가로 인정받고 있다. 최만길 작가의 표현 매체에 대한 연구는 미술 대학을 졸업 한 후 계속되어 왔다. 그는 재료 뿐 아니라 장르에 있어서도 조각과 평면 등을 넘나들며 폭넓은 작품 세계를 보여왔다. 작가는 이번 전시에서도 재료에 대한 깊은 성찰이 엿보인다. 요즘 많은 작가들이 한지를 이용해 작업을 하는 경향 또한 없지 않은데 최 작가의 경우 한지가 가진 물성을 다른 복합적인 재료와 결합을 통해 독창적인 질감을 표현해 내고 있다. 전시의 제목 에서 나타나듯이 작가의 이번 작품에서는 언뜻 추상의 형태로 읽을 수 있으나, 유심히 보면 한 켜 한 켜 화면에 쌓여져 나타난 마티에르에서 작가가 경험하고 겪어 온 삶의 흔적을 엿볼 수 있다. 최만길 작가의 초대전은 오는 5월 9일부터 28일까지 부산 ‘피카소 화랑’에서 열린다.
